Our Wedding Day

Nick Drake - Northern Sky - 1971

George - I first heard Nick Drake watching a Volkswagen commercial in 1999.  I didn't know who he was at the time, but the song "Pink Moon" used in the commercial caught my attention.  So when I discovered who he was weeks later, I decided to order the "Way to Blue" CD (yes, CD).  When I played it and the CD got to track 10 . . . I was mesmerized!  "Northern Sky" just blew me away.  With lyrics like:  I never felt magic crazy as this; I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea; I never held emotion in the palm of my hand; Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree; But now you're here . . .

The song is just incredible.  However, during his life, his music was commercially unsuccessful.  There is no video of Nick Drake, only photographs.  He died in 1974 at the age of 26 never to realize how impactful his music would become.  In 2004, the New Music Express (NME) described the song as the "greatest English love song of modern times".

Deb - I was introduced to this song while watching the movie, "Serendipity", with G.  The movie stars John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.  It about two people who initially meet by chance but left it up to destiny if they were to be together again.  Throughout the movie, both desperately try to find each other over time but always seem to miss finding the other.  It was at the end of the movie where John Cusack was laying on the ice rink finally accepting that it wasn't meant to be.  Then it started snowing and the song intro began playing.  I was emotionally swept away and deeply caught by the scene.  Kate Beckinsale's character shows up and tosses a glove into the air which lands on John Cusack during the song.  He sits up and finally the see each other.  When I was watching this movie with G and watching this scene . . . It had to be our song.  It is our song!
